Ladies, it was awfully chilly at today’s Martin Luther King (MLK) Day march in Anacostia, Washington DC. But, it was worth braving the cold to hear Martin’s “I Have a Dream” speech blasted via loudspeaker throughout the streets sending chills up everyone’s spine.
Many restaurants had MLK Day brunches. But, the one I went to (St. Anselm’s) didn’t have anything representing or comemorating the day. I was hoping for a Voting Rights cocktail or some Freedom Rider fries or just a little background music from the day to represent. The restaurant – and most likely many others – was just taking commercial advantage of the fact many people – particularly government workers – had the day off, and they could benefit.
Shameful! Profiting from MLK Day without a lick of service or contributing to the cause!
Well, ladies, we want to want to make sure there is no shame in your game and share with you some of Martin’s inspirational quotes to keep in mind for a loving 2020:
“It is not possible to be in favor of justice for some people and not be in favor of justice for all people.” — Martin Luther King Jr.
“Let no man pull you low enough to hate him.” — Martin Luther King Jr.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” — Martin Luther King Jr.
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” — Martin Luther King Jr.
“We are not makers of history. We are made by history.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
