Christmas is still on, and we’re still contemplating what this time of the year means. This means hearing the Christmas Story again and going over Bible verses.
In NIV Luke Chapter 1, verses 31 – 32, the angel Gabriel visits Mary and tells her, “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.”
Verse 34 states “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
How did Mary know what a virgin was? She could only know if she had had some sex education.
Maybe the information was incomplete. But, it is clear that this teen-aged, most likely illiterate girl from a rural town in the Middle East had been informed about sexual intercourse. This gives light and inspiration for all of us ladies to seek out sex education and encourage our friends, sisters, and daughters to do the same. Whether you’re 14 or 40 make sure you’re informed as best you can, just as the Mother of God was.
